With Oleksandr Usyk having vacated the heavyweight title, a new era is dawning in the division. Fan‑favourite contender Derek Chisora has now identified the only two fighters who can truly dominate the heavyweight scene today.
Usyk’s decision to step down has promoted Murat Gassiev (WBA champion) and Agit Kabayel (WBC champion) to full world‑title status, while the IBF has ordered a contest to decide its new champion.
Daniel Dubois currently holds the WBO heavyweight title and is slated to rematch Fabio Wardley later this year in his first defence of his second reign as world champion.
Moses Itauma, regarded as a rising star, will move a step closer to a world‑title shot when he faces Filip Hrgovic at The O2 Arena in August.
“There is only one person in this generation, right now, who can cause a headache for everybody and that is Moses [Itauma]. Then, I think that Daniel [Dubois] has got rid of his demons [too]. The two of them are the only ones; I don’t see anyone else, whether in America, Africa or elsewhere, who can trouble those two right now. I don’t see anyone.”
“Daniel is going to keep improving, getting better and better. Moses and Daniel are therefore the fighters to watch – they are the killers of the game.”
Chisora’s prediction may soon come true, as Itauma and Dubois could clash next year; the WBO’s top prospect is currently set as Dubois’ mandatory challenger.
