ATTOCK: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) announced on Tuesday the neutralization of five suspected terrorists during a targeted intelligence-based operation in Mankor, a remote border area within the Jand tehsil of Attock district.
A CTD spokesperson stated that the operation was launched following credible intelligence reports indicating the presence of militants who were reportedly planning attacks across Punjab.
Upon the arrival of the CTD team, the suspects opened fire, sparking a heavy exchange of gunfire. The CTD officers responded decisively, resulting in the deaths of all five suspects.
Following the encounter, security forces recovered a cache of weapons, explosive materials, and hand grenades. Preliminary investigations indicate that the individuals were linked to planned terrorist activities within the Punjab province, based on sensitive intelligence regarding their movement and operational coordination.
Authorities have since initiated a comprehensive search operation across the border regions of Attock to apprehend any remaining terrorists, facilitators, or accomplices who may have evaded the raid.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the CTD for the successful operation against Fitna al-Khawarij—the state’s designation for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan—according to Radio Pakistan.
In his statement, the Prime Minister commended the professionalism of the CTD, noting that security forces and police are making significant strides in the ongoing war against terrorism. He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering resolve to eradicate all forms of terrorism from the country.
