HotelTonight is a hotel booking platform designed for travelers who need accommodations on short notice. The service specializes in last-minute hotel deals, offering unsold rooms at discounted rates—sometimes significantly lower than standard pricing.

While not all listings provide substantial savings, 63% of same-day bookings in St. Petersburg, Florida were cheaper than prices on Booking.com for the same properties. As an Airbnb company, some bookings also qualify for 10% back in Airbnb credits.

This makes HotelTonight a solid option for spontaneous trips, unexpected travel disruptions, or same-day bookings. However, the savings come with limitations: most reservations are nonrefundable, room selection is restricted, and inventory is typically smaller than traditional booking platforms.

It’s built for last-minute hotel deals

HotelTonight caters to travelers needing rooms on short notice—usually same-day or a few days before arrival. Hotels list unsold inventory at discounted rates, with the deepest price drops occurring closer to check-in time. This can be valuable for unplanned stays.

The app is useful for flight delays or cancellations, late-night work trips, or spontaneous travel. For advance planning, traditional booking sites typically offer better selection and pricing.

Most stays are nonrefundable

Discounted rooms come with stricter cancellation policies. Most bookings are nonrefundable and cannot be changed after booking. If your plans might shift, a more flexible refund policy may be better.

The hotel selection may be limited

Only partner hotels appear on HotelTonight, making selection more limited than other platforms. For specific neighborhoods or properties, other platforms offer wider choices.

In St. Petersburg, Florida, my hometown with over 400 nearby hotels, HotelTonight showed only 16 properties for a midweek search versus 52 on Booking.com. Of those 16, 10 were up to 23% cheaper while 6 were up to 31% more expensive.

Room details may be limited

HotelTonight allows filtering by bed count and groups properties into categories like basic, hip, luxe, and high-roller rather than traditional filters. You typically cannot select room types and are assigned at check-in. This works for those who don’t mind flexibility, but may frustrate those wanting specific accommodations.

You can earn Airbnb credits on qualifying stays

A key feature allows earning 10% back in Airbnb credits on eligible stays. Credits expire one year after hotel checkout and may have other restrictions. To qualify, link your Airbnb account to your HotelTonight account—credits deposit automatically.

There’s a price guarantee

If you book through HotelTonight and find a lower public rate for the same room, HotelTonight will credit the difference for future stays. The lower rate must be for the same dates, room type, and cancellation policy, submitted within specific timeframes:

  • Same-day bookings: within two hours
  • Next-day check-ins: by midnight on booking date
  • More than one day in advance: within 24 hours

Should you use HotelTonight?

Potentially. It works well for last-minute bookings when you don’t mind nonrefundable rates and limited room selection. The 10% Airbnb credit incentive benefits travelers who book short-term rentals. However, if you prefer choosing specific properties and room types, traditional booking sites or direct hotel booking may serve you better.
