During the closing day of Bilbao BBK Live 2026, IDLES vocalist Joe Talbot paid tribute to the New York post-punk band Interpol, citing them as a fundamental reason for his own musical career.

Addressing the audience at the main stage on Saturday, July 11, Talbot said: “Thanks for making us feel so at home and so loved so far from home. It’s a dream to share a stage with one of the main reasons I’m in a band – Interpol and [Interpol’s touring member] Matt from The Walkmen. It’s a huge privilege and a fucking dream.”

Earlier that afternoon, Interpol performed on the same stage, helping to close the festival with a headlining set by Spanish rapper Dellafuente, while elsewhere attendees enjoyed performances from Lily Allen, HorsegiirL, Italo-disco pair Mind Enterprises, and others.

IDLES launched their performance with an intense new track, ‘Levitator’, offering a glimpse of their upcoming sixth studio album, which the band have used as an opener throughout their summer dates.

The song features Talbot denouncing “racist c**ts” before its anthemic refrain: “Violence is majestic, coming from a righteous rage/ Violence is majestic when you’re coming of age.”

Speaking to NME last month, guitarist Mark Bowen disclosed that the group is deep into writing what he described as their “most exciting” record to date, suggesting a return to the raw aesthetic of their earlier work for the sixth LP.

“We got back in the studio to write, and we’ve kinda gone – I don’t want to say back to basics because that’s cliche – but it’s a bit back to basics!” he said on the red carpet at the Ivor Novello Awards, where he earned a nomination with Florence Welch for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for the title track of Florence + The Machine’s recent album ‘Everybody Scream’.

“It’s five members in a room thrashing it out on instruments. Lots of arguments, [which is great because] if it’s too nice, then it’s not sick. It’s always more sick if someone is not getting what they want!”

Bilbao BBK Live 2026 wrapped up its 20th anniversary edition last night after a dynamic weekend showcasing international talents such as David Byrne, Robbie Williams, FKA Twigs, and CMAT.
