Lauv has withdrawn from his opening slot on Khalid’s It’s Always Summer Somewhere Tour due to mental health concerns.
“I’ve been trying to be strong enough to get back out there and share this music with all of you,” he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday. “But I have to be honest with myself and with you: I’m deeply struggling right now, and I need to step away for a little while to take care of my mental health.”
He apologized to his fans, Khalid, and those attending the tour. Lauv noted his history of discussing mental health openly, stating it has influenced much of his songwriting.
Khalid expressed his support on Instagram: “I wish you an abundance of love, light, and clarity through your dark times. Seeing you perform and do what you’re passionate about every night has been such a pleasure, and I know that when you are healed, you will continue to do even more great things. Your stories and songs have impacted so many fans and listeners, and we all will continue to be there for you.”
Earlier this year, the pair released the collaborative single “Tied Up.” Khalid launched the tour in support of his fourth album, “After the Sun Goes Down,” his first trek in six years. The tour will continue through the U.S. before moving to Europe and Oceania this fall.
Lauv’s most recent album, “All 4 Nothing,” was released in 2022. In discussing the project, he reflected on personal growth, stating, “I was rethinking a lot of things in my life, finding balance, and revisiting childhood and my innate light… I felt like I had lost touch with it before, so thank God for therapy and meditation and the fact that I was able to make this album.”
