LSU appears set to remain a member of the SEC.
SEC conference presidents convened on Thursday to consider sanctions against LSU, which included potential expulsion, after coach Lane Kiffin added former NFL players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to the roster.
When LSU chose not to activate those players, the conference likewise withdrew its threats.
The SEC said in a statement that its presidents and chancellors held a videoconference on Thursday to discuss conference expectations and responsibilities, and that these discussions will continue as the conference and its member institutions work toward an appropriate resolution.
Although the expulsion was not formally voted on — requiring a two‑thirds majority — Kiffin finalized his roster on Tuesday, leaving Wright and Harris off the team.
LSU president Wade Rousse sent a letter to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey on Wednesday, stating that the issue is moot because the university complies with conference rules by not fielding those players, per the AP.
“The roster is now locked for the season,” Rousse said, adding that LSU complied with SEC regulations and that the matter is moot.
