Russian authorities have detained a minor in connection with an alleged terror threat directed at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve in Moscow, according to state media.

The United States Embassy in Russia issued a security alert on Saturday, warning of a credible threat of a mass‑casualty event at the museum.

The embassy stated that it was coordinating its response with Russian authorities.

The embassy did not disclose specific details but urged people to avoid the area, remain alert, and stay away from crowds.

Russian state media reported on Sunday that the Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the detention of a minor in connection with the threat.

The FSB said the minor was detained after posting images on TikTok that showed him in tactical attire, a balaclava, cap, sunglasses, headphones and an object resembling an automatic weapon, along with photos taken at the Tsaritsyno Museum‑Reserve and the caption ‘I found a place’.

Saturday evening saw the Tsaritsyno museum and park grounds temporarily closed for technical reasons, with visitors evacuated; the site reopened as normal on 1 November, according to Russian media.

The German Embassy in Russia also issued a warning about a potential security threat at the museum reserve.

In March 2024, the US Embassy in Russia issued a comparable alert regarding a threat a few days before a terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue near Moscow, which killed more than 150 people and injured hundreds.

In the days preceding the attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin described warnings from several official Western bodies about the risk of terrorist attacks in Russia as provocative, asserting that the alerts amounted to outright blackmail and an attempt to destabilise society.
