Recent scrutiny has emerged regarding the relationship between Donald Trump and Natalie Harp following the release of two letters she wrote to the president, as reported by The Daily Beast and biographer Michael Wolff. Excerpts previously cited by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan in their book *Regime Change* depict Harp’s intense emotional attachment to Trump, a bond that would be deemed inappropriate in any professional context.
The initial letter, a full-page apology sent to the president, was prompted by what Harp described as an embarrassment she caused Trump during a golf outing in Scotland. Reports indicate the correspondence was discovered in Trump’s private quarters, a finding that alarmed the Secret Service and drew attention from staff.
“I strive for everything to be right between us. I admit I’ve been distracted this week—skipping meals, losing sleep, and only managing a few hours of rest. I’m not myself, preoccupied with the past,” Harp wrote, echoing the unconventional punctuation she employs in the Truth Social messages she prepares for the president.
“I fear falling out of your regard and jeopardizing the trust you place in me. I never wish to cause you anything but joy. I apologize for my lapse; you are everything to me, and I never want to disappoint you,” she wrote, referring to Trump as her “Guardian and Protector in this Life.”

In a second letter, apparently composed during the same trip, Harp expressed gratitude for the opportunity to step away from work. “For the first time in a long while, you forced me to unplug,” she wrote, noting that she no longer felt like the “Human Printer” — a term used by colleagues — while on the golf course, allowing her to enjoy personal time.
“I never realized how quickly I was heading toward burnout, and I began envying those whose sole role appears to be conversing with you and looking attractive. I long for that position,” Harp wrote. “I miss the days when you would call during my talk‑show days, and we would discuss anything and everything. I want our synergy back; we shouldn’t be confined to work topics.”
She ended by pledging to improve herself to earn Trump’s pride, urging him to let her know if she ever fell short. “You have every right to reprimand me when I deserve it, because no one knows or cares about me more than you do.”
Harp, a former One America News host, has been employed by the president since 2024. Reports indicate she is a constant presence at his meetings and daily activities. Her responsibilities span stenography, social‑media management, gatekeeping, acting as a bag woman, and serving as a de facto personal companion to the president.
Trump and his White House communications team criticized CNN reporter Kristen Holmes and Senator Jon Ossoff (D‑Ga.) after the senator made a joking remark about Harp’s relationship with the president during a campaign event. The controversy intensified after The Washington Post reported that Harp was among a small group of staff who were secretly removed from Air Force One in a catering cart and transferred to another aircraft to evade a security threat during a trip to Turkey, leaving senior officials such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio behind.
It has long been observed that Trump values loyalty above all else within his inner circle. As Haberman and Swan note, he once told staff that while “all of you will go off and make money,” Harp “will never leave me.”
Harp is not only staying but actively pursuing Trump. On Friday, *The Mirror* published images of her running behind the president’s convoy of golf carts during his Scotland trip. Though she later apologized, the episode exemplifies the humiliation rituals the president enjoys inflicting on his staff, and Harp may be unique in her genuine expression of gratitude.
