Nothing’s Headphone (1) Pro Targets Studio-Grade Sound With Triple-Driver Architecture

The Headphone (1) Pro is Nothing’s latest over-ear headphones, unveiled Monday at an evening event in New York City. Building on the design of the company’s first over-ear model from last summer, the Pro refines both form and fit—but the real leap is in audio performance.

Instead of relying on a single dynamic driver per earcup, Nothing has equipped the Headphone (1) Pro with three dedicated drivers in each ear. Most headphones use one 40-mm dynamic driver to handle bass, mids, and treble simultaneously, which can lead to muddiness and distortion. By assigning each frequency band its own driver, the soundstage gains clarity and separation.

A 40-mm bass driver handles the low end, while a precision dynamic driver takes care of the midrange—vocals, pianos, guitars—and is designed to render “S” and “T” sounds with greater detail. The treble driver uses xMEMS technology with a silicon diaphragm, intended to sharpen transients like cymbal hits and synth stabs.

Together, the trio of drivers aims for richer, more detailed sound. Every headphone maker claims the best audio on the market, but Nothing backs its claim with a genuinely distinctive engineering approach.

The triple-driver setup is partially visible through 9H Panda glass panels on the sides of each earcup. The rest of the chassis is aluminum with titanium accents. While the glass may raise durability concerns, Nothing says it survived drop tests from over one meter, repeated 18 times, and is rated shatter- and scratch-resistant. A plastic film beneath the glass keeps the internal chamber sealed even if cracked, and technicians can heat the glass for removal during repairs.

The Headphone (1) Pro is 2 grams lighter than the standard Headphone (1), with a wider headband and thicker padding. Battery life drops to 68 hours with ANC off (versus 80 hours), and the headphones carry an IP52 dust- and water-resistance rating—enough to handle light splashes, but keep the hood up in a downpour.
