Two weeks after the severe crash in Shanghai, Ollie Millroy has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home.

The British driver was unexpectedly caught in a multi-car pile‑up during Race 1 of the China GT, resulting in his Ferrari 296 catching fire. Heroically rescued by Loek Hartog, who halted his Porsche to assist his teammate, the man survived with grave but treatable injuries.

Millroy was hospitalized initially with six broken ribs, a collapsed collarbone, a fractured hand, and a punctured lung. He required insertion of a drainage tube, and underwent surgical fixation using metal plates and screws to stabilize the damage.

The passage of one week has been swift, with steady improvement evident despite persistent post‑traumatic memories. Throughout his convalescence, Millroy was supported by his wife Fern, who accompanied him spiritually and emotionally during intensive rehabilitation sessions.

“They say you should never meet your heroes. I’d like to thank Loek for visiting me in the hospital on Thursday,” Millroy said, adding that he extended his best wishes to Fran Rueda, who will replace him in the Inception Racing Ferrari for IMSA’s Petit Le Mans in October.

“We enjoyed an remarkable conversation while seated by my hospital bed earlier this week. It was truly moving to meet surgeons, doctors, and nurses who have guided my path toward recovery. We look forward to remaining lifelong friends.”

“Just yesterday, we made a significant progress milestone. Following a positive lung scan and pneumothorax assessment, the medical team removed the drainage tube from my lung.”

“For the first time in weeks, I have been off life‑support equipment and walked from my room to the hospital café. My goal was now simply to spend a few additional days closely monitoring my condition.”

He added, “Exactly two weeks after my crash in Shanghai, I was discharged from the hospital. My body is fully equipped with medication, and it is time to focus on healing at home.”

“In the end, I will achieve a complete recovery from the injuries I sustained, but these last two weeks have transformed my life. They have given me a completely different perspective, and I will never take for granted the simple pleasures of existence. Stepping through the hospital exit today felt like the true beginning of Chapter Two in my story.”

“Treat every moment as if it were a final chapter—cherish your loved ones, avoid distractions, and conserve your energy for meaningful pursuits. As Loek Hartog wise, look out for one another as a single unit. Life is fleeting; seize every opportunity!”

“My deepest thanks go to the compassionate doctors, surgeons, nursing staff, and volunteers at Shanghai United Family Hospital. All who reached out with encouragement have been invaluable to my recuperation. A lengthy recovery journey remains ahead, but at least I can approach it at home with my children nearby.”
