Paul McCartney reportedly performed “I Want To Hold Your Hand” for the first time since 1964 during the wedding celebration of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
The high-profile nuptials took place on Friday, July 3, at New York’s Madison Square Garden, with comedian Adam Sandler reportedly officiating the ceremony.
While many details of the event have remained private, reports indicate that both McCartney and Stevie Nicks provided musical entertainment. According to People, McCartney’s rendition of “I Want To Hold Your Hand” marks the first time he has performed the track since the original Beatles era in 1964.
Following the ceremony, Swift’s mother, Andrea, reportedly led guests into the reception area where a stage had been prepared for the special performances by McCartney and Nicks.
Swift and McCartney have long maintained a mutual respect. Recently, Swift took to Instagram to praise his latest album, *The Boys Of Dungeon Lane*, noting that she is “never not inspired by this eternally exceptional artist.”
McCartney has previously compared Swift’s unprecedented global reach to the height of Beatlemania, though he noted that the pop star is more than capable of managing her own success.
“You do see the parallel—the amount of fame,” McCartney remarked. “The worldwide fame that Taylor Swift has and that we had, but I don’t think she needs any advice, to tell you the truth.”
The duo’s musical history dates back to 2015, when they collaborated at the *Saturday Night Live* 40th anniversary afterparty to perform “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Shake It Off.”
McCartney later admitted he had intended to invite Swift to join him for “Shake It Off” during his 2020 Glastonbury headline set, which was ultimately cancelled.
The friendship remained evident in 2024, when McCartney was spotted dancing and swapping friendship bracelets at Swift’s Eras Tour stop at London’s Wembley Stadium. Earlier that year, the two were seen catching up at the Super Bowl.
The wedding has captured global attention, coinciding with the couple’s generous $26 million donation to 20 American charities. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani also commented on the occasion, sharing his favorite Swift tracks.
The event even sparked political commentary, with the White House posting an edited image of the Madison Square Garden sign—a subtle nod following Donald Trump’s criticisms of Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
Speaking to NME earlier this year regarding his new music, McCartney reflected on his lifelong passion for songwriting, stating, “Writing a song is still a magic feeling for me.”
