Phantom Discontinues Sui Support
Phantom, a leading self‑custodial, multi‑chain crypto wallet, announced on Monday that it will cease support for the Sui (SUI) network effective September 24, 2026. Users will have one month to transfer their assets off the platform before the wallet no longer displays balances or enables transactions on Sui.
After the deadline, Phantom users will be unable to view, send, swap, or otherwise interact with Sui assets through the wallet. However, the tokens will remain on the Sui chain. Affected users can still access their holdings using a compatible wallet that uses the same credentials, ensuring no loss of funds.
To ease the transition, Phantom has waived all swap fees for SUI transactions and urges holders to move their assets to another supported wallet to avoid inconvenience. The provider also warns users against phishing attempts, emphasizing that it will never request recovery phrases or private keys via email or phone.
Reason for the Decision
Phantom stated that the discontinuation results from a mutual agreement with Sui, marking the end of a partnership formed just 20 months ago. Both parties declined to provide further details, leaving the crypto community to speculate.
The lack of a clear explanation has drawn criticism, with some observers noting that abruptly ending support for a network without transparent reasoning could set a problematic precedent for self‑custodial wallet providers. Others suggest that low activity or limited adoption of Sui within Phantom’s ecosystem may have influenced the decision.
On‑chain data from DeFiLlama shows that Sui’s Total Value Locked has fallen sharply, from over $2.7 billion in October 2025 to roughly $470 million currently, adding context to the shifting landscape.
