Sami Zayn has reclaimed the Undisputed WWE Championship, securing his second reign with the prestigious title.
In a highly contested main event, Zayn overcame CM Punk on Friday’s episode of SmackDown to claim the championship.
Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae rush to the ring’s exterior, with Gargano scaling the apron to distract CM Punk. Zayn attempts a roll-up for the pin, but Punk kicks out. Zayn applies a figure-four leg lock, though Punk targets Zayn’s injured wrist. LeRae joins Gargano on the apron as Punk locks in the Anaconda Vice, forcing Zayn to tap out; however, the referee is distracted by the commotion. Gargano grabs the championship belt and enters the ring, aiming to strike Punk with it, only to receive a GTS. The referee then removes Gargano from the ring. Kevin Owens steps in and seizes the title, intending to hit Zayn, but Zayn evades and Owens inadvertently strikes Punk. Zayn follows with a low blow to Owens before tossing the title to the outside and delivering the Helluva Kick for the pinfall victory.
