Six Rwandan Innovators Earn Continental Recognition in Africa’s Business Heroes 2026 Top 100]
Rwanda has once again proven its stronghold in African entrepreneurship, with six homegrown firms securing spots among the Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) 2026 Top 100 Entrepreneurs.
The selection comes from over 24,000 applications across all 54 African nations. The 2026 edition of the competition, backed by the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Philanthropy, expanded the first-round cohort from 50 to 100 entrepreneurs.
The selected startups span diverse sectors including healthcare and education technology, agribusiness and data science, addressing real-world challenges while creating employment opportunities and driving economic growth.
Here are the six Rwandan firms recognized for their innovation:
Kosmotive
Founded by Blandine Umuziranenge in 2014, Kosmotive is a social enterprise focused on improving reproductive, maternal and child health across Africa. The organization combines health initiatives with education and women’s empowerment through programs like reusable sanitary products and STEM education for girls.
EDPU Digital Clinic
Youssef Travaly’s EDPU Digital Clinic, established in 2021, is a health-tech platform leveraging technology to connect patients with healthcare services and improve access to medical information in underserved communities.
Ishyo Foods
set up by Sharon Akanyana in 2017, Ishyo Foods transforms locally sourced agricultural products into market-ready goods. The company supports farmers, promotes food security and contributes to Rwanda’s growing agro-processing industry.
eFiche Ltd
Under David Kamugundu’s leadership, eFiche is a Kigali-based digital health company building technology infrastructure for Africa’s primary healthcare system. Its electronic medical record (EMR) platform serves 125 health facilities across 15 districts, storing patient records and enabling healthcare providers to access medical histories and order laboratory tests. The platform also features AI-powered decision-support tools to enhance care quality and efficiency.
ZIMA Healthy Group
Founded by Marie Ange Mukagahima in 2017, ZIMA Healthy Group adds value to agricultural products through nutritious food processing. Starting with pumpkin-based products, it has expanded into avocado, sesame, chia and cashew value chains, creating market opportunities for local farmers and jobs for youth and women.
Africa Quantitative Sciences (AQS)
Hinda Ruton leads AQS, an organization using data science, analytics and research to support evidence-based decision-making. Its work helps governments and organizations use data to address development challenges in agriculture, health and education sectors.
The six firms reflect sectors that Rwanda has increasingly prioritized: healthcare, education technology, data science, agribusiness, food processing and women’s empowerment. Their recognition demonstrates how Rwandan businesses are expanding beyond local impact to achieve continental acclaim.
Rwanda ranks among the best-represented countries in East Africa in the 2026 cohort, trailing only regional leaders Kenya, Egypt and Nigeria. The six selected entrepreneurs will now compete for spots among the ABH Top 20 Semi-Finalists on August 21-22 in Nairobi, Kenya. The eventual Top 10 finalists will share a $1.5 million prize fund, with the grand prize winner receiving $300,000.
In the previous edition, five local firms reached the final stage, including Munyax Eco, Iriba Water Group, Water Access Rwanda, Uzuri K&Y, and Vuba Vuba Africa Ltd.
