Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has celebrated a new milestone in his family’s journey as his son Rio takes his first steps in the sport. A series of photographs shared on August 31, 2026, depicts Rio suited up in cricket attire and touring a bat factory to select his equipment, marking the start of a shared father-son journey.
The former India and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder shared the update on his Instagram account, @sureshraina3.

“Like father, like son! Our cricket journey begins now, bud. I am eager to relive the joy, excitement, and innocence of the game all over again, this time through your eyes. Let us create some beautiful memories together,” Raina wrote in the caption.
Suresh Raina’s Career in Numbers
Rio was born on March 23, 2020, and is Raina’s second child with his wife, Priyanka. The couple’s first child, their daughter Gracia, was born in 2016. Upon Rio’s arrival, Raina announced the birth on social media, stating, “We are proud to welcome our son and Gracia’s little brother – Rio Raina.”
Raina represented India across 322 international appearances from 2005 to 2018, playing 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is. He made history as the first Indian to score centuries in all three formats of international cricket, with every century achieved outside of India. He retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, coinciding with MS Dhoni’s own international retirement announcement.
In ODIs, Raina amassed 5,615 runs in 226 matches at an average of 35.31, with a highest score of 116 not out, along with five centuries and 36 half-centuries. His T20I career yielded 1,604 runs in 78 matches at an average of 29.16, featuring one century and five half-centuries. Across 18 Test matches, he scored 768 runs from 31 innings at an average of 26.48, with a top score of 120, one century, and seven half-centuries.
In the IPL, Raina scored 5,528 runs in 205 matches at an average of 32.52 with a strike rate of 136.74. A key figure for the Chennai Super Kings throughout most of his career, he was instrumental in the side’s victory in two Champions League T20 titles.
