Sydney Thunder have strengthened their bowling options for the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2026‑27 season with the signing of an experienced England fast bowler. The pacer will be available for the entire campaign, providing a valuable asset as the franchise gears up for the tournament.
The deal reunites the bowler with former England teammate Heather Knight in the Thunder line‑up, while also adding a player who boasts extensive international experience and a proven track record across multiple franchise competitions in women’s cricket.
Experienced England pacer signs for Thunder
England fast bowler Lauren Bell has rejoined Sydney Thunder for WBBL 12, marking her second stint with the franchise. The 25‑year‑old, who currently ranks in the ICC T20I bowling top‑five, impressed with seven wickets at the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. She also starred for Southern Brave in The Hundred, ending the tournament as the leading wicket‑taker with 19 dismissals, including a best‑ever 4/6.
Bell maintained her fine form in the Women’s Premier League, taking 12 wickets for champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their 2026 season. She also delivered an economical four‑over spell of 19 runs in the final, teaming up with Georgia Voll to help secure the title.
Lisa Keightley backs Bell to make an impact
Sydney Thunder head coach Lisa Keightley praised Bell’s wicket‑taking prowess, versatility and strong work ethic, noting her ability to strike early and deliver at different stages of an innings. Keightley added that Bell’s availability for the full season would be a significant asset. Bell expressed excitement at returning to Sydney and said she aimed to instill a winning mindset within the squad.
Bell also spoke about looking forward to playing alongside Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll. Having previously faced Litchfield in competition and sharing a dressing room with Voll during international duties in India, she praised the chemistry. Her return provides Thunder with a seasoned bowling option ahead of WBBL 12, and the franchise is optimistic that her current form will translate into another productive season.
