Legendary Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip will make their final public appearance again tonight as the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation re-airs their 2016 Kingston, Ontario farewell concert to mark the 10th anniversary of Gord Downie’s last performance with the group.
The special, The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration, will air across Canada at 7 p.m. local time, available on TV via CBC and streaming live on CBC Gem. International viewers can access the broadcast through a virtual private network.
Viewers outside Canada can use a VPN service to access the stream on CBC.ca or the CBC YouTube page.
The band’s final concert, held in their hometown of Kingston on August 20, 2016, drew an audience of over one-third of Canada. The historic event marked Downie’s last public performance before his brain cancer diagnosis and subsequent passing in October 2017.
In tribute to the anniversary, the rebroadcast will include a new short film titled A Beautiful Thing, directed by Downie’s brother Mike. The film features never-before-seen footage and interviews with notable Canadians reflecting on the band’s cultural impact.
The commemorative vinyl release, Live July 22 – August 20, 2016, features recordings from the band’s final cross-Canada tour and is available on three discs, including a special pull-out booklet with behind-the-scenes content.
Additional celebrations will continue through the weekend, beginning with events in Kingston that honor Downie and the band’s legacy.
