A devastating collision involving two passenger buses on a central Syrian highway has resulted in at least 35 fatalities and numerous injuries.

The accident took place on Saturday along the Damascus-Deir ez-Zor highway, in the stretch between Palmyra and Al-Sukhnah.

This vital transport artery spans over 400km, serving as a primary connection between the capital and eastern Syria.

The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that multiple helicopters have been deployed to the scene to facilitate the medical evacuation of the injured to Homs Military Hospital.
