Teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been handed his first official Indian jersey, with a debut in an upcoming T20 against Ireland scheduled for Friday.
Fifteen‑year‑old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi expressed that this moment fulfills a lifelong dream.
After a record‑breaking Indian Premier League season, Sooryavanshi earned a place in India’s T20 squads for tours of Ireland, England, and the Asian Games, and is slated to make his senior debut in the opening T20 against Ireland in Belfast on Friday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India released a video on Tuesday showing the presentation of the blue jersey to Sooryavanshi, describing it as a historic occasion for the nation.
He said the chance to wear the Indian jersey fulfills an aspiration he has held since first picking up a bat on a cricket field, and that the feeling is beyond words.
The footage captures him unpacking the jersey, which bears his name on the back and the number 03.
He is poised to become India’s youngest ever international cricketer, surpassing the milestone set by Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted in Test cricket at 16 years and 205 days.
His extraordinary IPL campaign, in which he amassed 776 runs for the Rajasthan Royals to finish as the tournament’s leading run‑scorer, has attracted widespread attention.
During that season he recorded one century and five fifties, earning the Orange Cap as the competition’s top run‑scorer.
