Nate Thomas Poised to Challenge for Cowboys’ Left Tackle Position

Pro Bowl left guard Tyler Smith remains the Cowboys’ top left tackle, but his reluctance to shift positions creates an opening. Dallas will maintain Smith at guard, setting up a head-to-head battle for the starting left tackle role to shield Dak Prescott’s blindside.

Although the Cowboys selected Tyler Guyton 29th overall in the 2024 draft, his inconsistency and injury history have opened the door for Nate Thomas. A seventh-round pick from the same draft class, Thomas began his NFL career with four starts last season, demonstrating potential despite limited experience.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed the competition remains wide open during the offseason program. Thomas emphasized that his development this spring, following a year of limited action due to injury, has significantly improved his preparation. Training with veteran specialist Duke Manyweather of OL Masterminds, Thomas refined techniques and addressed specific weaknesses observed during his 341 snaps in 2023. His focus on fundamentals and sustained growth positions him as a legitimate contender for the starting role.
