USS Abraham Lincoln Returns to Thailand After 286-Day Middle East Deployment

LAEM CHABANG, Thailand – The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln arrived at a port in eastern Thailand on Wednesday, concluding a demanding deployment across the Middle East.

Associated Press reporters observed the Lincoln, carrying roughly 5,000 personnel, entering Laem Chabang port in Chonburi province shortly after the destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. passed the area.

During its mission, the ship supported U.S. operations against Iran, logging a record‑breaking 250‑plus consecutive days at sea. Growing concerns over such an extended deployment have been highlighted by reports of declining crew morale and shortages of essential supplies, including food and hygiene items.

The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok issued a statement confirming the ship’s arrival, noting that the Lincoln’s strike group docked at Laem Chabang, the destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. anchored at the nearby port of Sriracha, and the guided‑missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls is positioned in Map Ta Phut, Rayong province.

According to the embassy’s statement, this marks the Lincoln’s first complete port call after 286 days at sea since the deployment began in 2025.

“The Abraham Lincoln’s stop at Laem Chabang underscores our lasting partnership with Thailand, and we are thrilled to make this country the first port of call on our historic deployment,” said Capt. Dan Keeler, the carrier’s commanding officer, in the statement.

In August, the usual Asia‑based carrier USS George Washington replaced the Lincoln in the Middle East, taking over its duties.

Many crew members are slated to visit Pattaya, a popular beach resort near the port, as the stop is intended for rest and recuperation prior to returning to their home base in the United States, according to Thai officials.

Pattaya officials expressed enthusiasm for the visit and its anticipated economic benefits, while authorities are enhancing security measures to ensure a seamless stay.
