Verreynne Anchors Nottinghamshire Chase to Secure One-Day Cup Victory Over Warwickshire

After being put in to bat, Warwickshire stumbled to 58 for three inside the powerplay. Brett Hutton struck twice, removing Vaansh Jani caught behind and captain Rob Yates, who top-edged a slow bouncer to slip, while Lyndon James had Zen Malik pouched at gully.

On a difficult pitch, the hosts slid further to 121 for six. Kai Smith chopped on off James, Alex Davies gloved a sweep off left-armer Ben Pocklington, and Jake Lintott top-edged a reverse sweep.

However, Danny Garton and Ethan Bamber rescued the innings with a seventh-wicket List A record partnership for Warwickshire against Nottinghamshire.

Garton exploded into action, smashing three fours in an over from debutant Byron Hatton-Lowe. He deposited Farhan Ahmed over long-on and pulled James for a pair of sixes to reach a maiden List A century off 87 balls—his previous best in the format being just 38, despite five first-class half-centuries.

Bamber, whose prior List A high was 21, contributed a fluent 47 before holing out to wide long-off. Taz Ali fell lbw to Pocklington, and Garton then cramped up after launching Hatton-Lowe for his third six, perishing at long-off, before Oliver Hannon-Dalby fell on the penultimate delivery of the innings.

In reply, Nottinghamshire’s openers, Ben Slater and Will McCann, laid a solid foundation despite Slater requiring treatment twice for a muscle issue. Slater eventually fell to bounce and turn, with captain Rob Yates taking a sharp catch at point off his own bowling.

Jake Lintott sparked a collapse with two wickets in his first seven balls, dismissing McCann and captain Haseeb Hameed to revive Warwickshire’s hopes of rebounding from their opening loss to Northamptonshire.

Further blows saw Ben Martindale slice Yates to short third man and Lyndon James miscue Lintott to mid-off, leaving the Outlaws teetering at 190 for five with 93 still required.

Kyle Verreynne and Pocklington steadied the chase with an unhurried 82-run stand off 86 balls. Pocklington departed for 31, and Farhan Ahmed followed soon after, but debutant Byron Hatton-Lowe sealed the victory with a boundary nine balls early.
