Peacock has officially greenlit its first television series based on the globally successful Fast & Furious franchise, marking a significant expansion of the storied film series that has grossed over $7 billion worldwide across 25 years.
The new series will be developed by Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman, who will serve as writers and co-showrunners. The project was among several announced during NBCUniversal’s Upfront event in May, where franchise icon Vin Diesel confirmed his involvement as executive producer.
“As you all know, we are very precious about these movies, but over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more—they wanted us to expand the legacy characters and their stories,” Diesel stated at the Upfront event. “For the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space.”
Diesel noted that his decision to move forward with a television adaptation was influenced by Universal Studios chief Donna Langley assuming oversight of NBCUniversal’s television operations in 2023.
“That’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family will be protected in the TV space,” he added.
The series is slated to premiere in 2028, coinciding with the release of Fast Forever, the eleventh and final installment of the film franchise, scheduled for March 17, 2028.
Produced by Universal Television, the series will feature Daniels and Coleman alongside Diesel as executive producers. They will be joined by Sam Vincent of One Race, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, and Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan.
Daniels brings extensive television experience, having served as showrunner for Peacock’s PONIES and contributing to series including Shades of Blue, Sons of Anarchy, and NBC’s upcoming The Rockford Files reboot. Coleman has executive produced 9-1-1: Lone Star and also worked on Shades of Blue.
During the Upfront presentation, Diesel revealed that three additional Fast & Furious series projects are currently in development. These include projects from The Endgame‘s Nick Wooton and House of the Dragon‘s Charmaine DeGraté, as well as additional series from Griselda showrunner Ingrid Escajeda and Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson.
This television expansion comes as NBCUniversal celebrates the 25th anniversary of the franchise, which launched with The Fast and the Furious in 2001, starring Diesel as Dominic Toretto, Paul Walker as Brian O’Conner, Jordana Brewster as Mia, and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty.
